Banyan Tree Inks Deal for First Bahamas Property

The eco-chic resort will bring the first overwater bungalow-style hotel suites to the Bahamas.

Singapore-based Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts plans to open its first luxury hotel in the Bahamas, on the island of Bimini, in partnership with Island Developers, a leading Caribbean real estate development firm.

A secluded beach hideaway set on 40 acres and spanning over 9,000 feet of coastline, Banyan Tree illa Bahamas will consist of 50 keys and 54 three- and four-bedroom residential villas. The eco-chic resort will bring the first overwater bungalow-style hotel suites to the Bahamas, each with private terraces and plunge pools.

The property will offer a beachfront pool, garden tennis courts, bar and lounge, restaurant, library, beachfront tennis pavilion, volleyball and bocce ball courts, children’s play area, overwater spa, and water sports kiosk.

Banyan Tree said to expect lifestyle amenities ranging from unique culinary pop-ups to curated music series to oceanside meditations at the Banyan Tree Spa.

Banyan Tree illa Bahamas has been designed by renowned architect Chad Oppenheim to “create an eco-luxury development that builds with the land, not on the land.”

To enhance sustainability efforts, the property has incorporated a complete solar package, energy management system, smart-home technology and back-up generator applications into its design and services.

The smallest of the Bahamian island chain, Bimini is the closest to the U.S., just 48 nautical miles off the coast of Florida, and is accessible by ferry, boat, plane and helicopter. North of the hustle of Bimini’s Bailey Town, owners and guests will find a slender ribbon of land that will be home to Banyan Tree illa Bahamas, known for its sparkling crystal-clear waters, world-class bone-fishing, fingertip-close access to wild dolphins, colorful coral reefs and modern architecture.

With a portfolio of close to 50 properties across four brands and 24 countries, Banyan Tree illa Bahamas marks the company's first foray into the region, as the luxury hotel group continues to expand into the Americas.
